OUTREACH PROJECTS
These projects of national scope provide training to educators, speech-language pathologists and family members on assessment and educational strategies in communication and cognition for nonverbal children who experience complex and multiple disabilities including deafblindness and autism spectrum disorders. ASSESSMENT PROJECT
This project will identify the instruments used to assess children ages 2-8 who are deafblind and the purposes for which these instruments are used. Validation studies will be conducted for selected instruments at multiple research locations. Final products will recommend specific assessment instruments based on a child's specific needs. This project also involves investigators at California State University-Northridge, the University of Texas at Dallas, St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital Center and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, and the National Family Association for Deaf-Blind.
